Collars of Estate

The badges featured on this page are our very secular "carnival" badges.
They vary from the slightly racy to the extremely graphic to the
downright odd! All of them are very faithful reproductions of badges, made
and worn in the late Middle Ages, which are now in European collections.

Whether these badges were worn to celebrate the misrule of carnival days,
attract good sexual luck, or merely amuse and titillate their owners,
they show us a whole new side of medieval culture. People have not
changed much through the ages and there have always been those with
a taste for the naughty!

Enjoy!

Charm Style indicates that the badge is meant to be worn suspended
or sewn in place. Check out our Charm Hangers!

Pin Back indicates that the piece is cast with a medieval pin closure. These pewter pin backs are not
intended for repeatedly moving the badge from garment to garment. If you intend this item for modern wear, please request a modern pin back where available.
